The opening ceremony of the first World Cup on the African soil was telecast live to the whole world. As the performances went on, the microphone was handed to artistes upon artiste to perform.
Ghanaians who were glued to their television sets to catch a glimpse of the historic event wondered why no Ghanaian was called upon to perform, especially when noise has been made in the Ghanaian media about some musicians (Becca, Kojo Antwi and Shasha Marley) being selected to perform on the opening ceremony.
GhanaCelebrities.com can confirm that the story published about FIFA selection of Becca and co to perform on the opening ceremony was a fabrication. Meanwhile, the show publicized to take place at Rhodes Park in Johannesburg, South Africa, from June 9 to 11 to welcome and entertain the football fans, prior to the tournament was a flop.
Kojo Antwi and Shasha Marley didn’t turn up for the show. The latter didn’t give reasons for not turning up but GhanaCelebrities.com is reliably informed that Kojo Antwi said organization was bad and he didn’t want be part of any ‘yawa’ show. Our source chipped in that, Becca ended up performing alone with some unknown artistes from Abidjan and South Africa.
GhanaCelebrities.com has learnt that FIFA did not contact any musician from Ghana to be part of the opening ceremony, though Osibisa’s ‘Sunshine Day’ was sang by an unknown artiste at the ceremony.
